Who are we?

 

 The NGO Israel Bicycle Association works to advance the culture of bikes and bike transportation in Israel. Israel Bicycle Association also works to improve public health, quality of life and the environment, increase levels of safety for riders and reduce the social gap.  Israel Bicycle Association has been awarded the “Green Globe” - The Oscar of the environmental movement – for its excellence in environmental activities. 

 

Israel Bicycle Association receives no support from the authorities. Its main resources are its members and supporters. Many members also serve on local teams working to improve bicycle transportation in the places where they live. Others work on topic teams (planning, road safety, Lobbying, public policy, riding to work, safe cycling to school, public health, communications, events, legal assistance, internet, learning to ride, fighting bike theft, bicycles on public transport, mountain bikes, road bikes, research, etc.)

 

Israel Bicycle Association works at different levels:

 

• National: Initiating and promoting Parliamentary Bills With Government offices in the Knesset; Promoting The national program for bikes, in conjunction with Israel’s National Transport Infrastructure Company, to Organize riding on inter-city roads. Promoting a program for bike lanes in the Dan region.

• Urban: Cooperating and participating in bike projects in more than 100 different local authorities.

• Public: Working with residents, schools, organizations and companies;  Holding public events and carrying out three participatory programs – ‘riding to work’, ‘Safe cycling to school’, cycling safely’.

 

 

 

Membership of the ECF

 

Israel Bicycle Association is the only Israeli organization in the ECF –The European Cycling Federation - and it benefits from the huge accumulated knowledge and experience of the ECF.Israel Bicycle Association cooperates with its counterparts in the ECF to import practices proven to encourage the use of bicycles and increase their safety.

 

Transporting the success of Tel Aviv to other cities

 

The bike project which Israel for Bikes began in Tel Aviv In 1994 is its oldest one. Its achievements include 116 Kilometers of bike lanes, a bike hiring system, daily use of bikes to work by 15% of central Tel Aviv residents, Educational programs in schools and free bike lessons for the general public. Thousands of riders take part in the events put on monthly throughout the country by Israel Bicycle Association and there is an annual event which draws More than 20,000 people.

 

Our 2017-2018 Campaign

 

Approval of the Bills in the Knesset to encourage travel by bike; increasing the safety of riders, clamping down on bicycle theft, safe cycling lanes to school, allowing for the installation of showers in the workplaces, extending the project of bicycle leasing from Tel Aviv to other cities, ‘Riding to work’,  road bikes, mountain bikes, and more.
